A Mediterranean diet with extra virgin olive oil and pistachios reduces gestational diabetes mellitus

The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is increasing in parallel with higher rates of obesity, and older age at pregnancy. The adoption of the International Association of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups criteria (IADPSG criteria) for its diagnosis has also increased prevalence . GDM is associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes and higher risk for maternal Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) later in life.
